La Mare Wine Estate Green Action Plan 2024 - 2025

We are committed to protecting and enhancing our estate and the environment in which it is set. As part of our commitment we are dedicated to the following initiatives:

1. Environmental Awareness & Education

Proactively engage and educate our visitors on sustainable practices and the importance of preserving our environment through guided experiences, signage, and digital content.

2. Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy

Monitor energy consumption on a monthly basis to reduce consumption across the estate.

Explore renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, to power our operations and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Conduct an annual inspection of electrical equipment

3. Water Conservation

Adopt water-saving technologies and practices to minimise waste, including low-flow systems and smart irrigation for our Vineyard and Orchards.

4. Grey Water Recycling

Continue recycling grey water to reduce freshwater usage and support irrigation efforts across the estate.

5. Waste Reduction & Recycling

Increase recycling efforts with dedicated systems for cardboard, glass, plastics, and metals, with clear visitor communication.

Continue the collection of used cooking oils for conversion into biofuels in collaboration with Les Amis.

Use rechargeable batteries across the estate to limit hazardous waste.

Ensure responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste in line with best practices.

6. Sustainable Transport & Emissions

Continue to expand our estate vehicles to electric or other clean-energy options, further reducing emissions.

7. Biodiversity & Natural Resource Protection

Continue to minimise the use of chemicals in our Vineyard by promoting natural solutions, integrated pest management, and organic farming techniques.

Continue the process of converting our orchards to be certified organic by 2026.

8. Green Procurement

Prioritise sustainable and eco-friendly products, from office supplies to kitchen equipment, with a focus on materials that are recycled, organic, or locally sourced.

10. Environmental Audits & Accountability

Conduct annual environmental impact audits to assess progress and identify areas for improvement, ensuring we remain aligned with our Green Tourism Gold accreditation.

By focusing on these 10 core actions, La Mare Wine Estate aims to lead by example, ensuring that every step we take contributes to a greener, more sustainable future for Jersey and beyond.
